Early morning mindfulness

This time of year here in Dorset, you can sense the quality of the light beginning to change, you can feel the chilliness of winter gradually fading. The birds know it almost before we do…this very magical sound of the early morning dawn chorus begins.

So wrap yourself up warmly and simply stand or sit in your garden at dawn, using the whole of your body as a microphone – ‘just listening…’

The first bird to sing will probably be the Blackbird with it’s mellow fluting song, all rich and warm in texture and tone. Then the Song Thrush with it’s hauntingly melodic call, the pure notes of the Robin next, the chitter chatter of the Wren, the coo-ing of the Wood Pigeon, the incessant cawing of the Jackdaws, maybe even the distant hum and vibration of traffic. All of this building to a crescendo of melodious sounds and notes and textures. It’s almost as if you were listening to a piece of abstract music, a vigorous contemporary morning orchestra, unique each and every day, just for you.

Simply allow it all to soak in…your free early morning meditation.

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love…”¬† Marcus Aurelius¬†
