One of the most important aspects of meditation is to establish a daily practice.

Even as little as 10 minutes each day will make a difference.

Here are a few suggestions to help you:

  • Find a time of day that works for you and then try to sit and meditate at that time every day.
  • If you are a morning person, then meditate shortly after getting up. Others may find it easier to meditate in the afternoon or evening or even before bed.


  • Find yourself a quiet space where you can practice every day, make it your own special place. It can be anywhere, as long as you can be undisturbed for this period of time. Use a chair or cushion or seiza stool, whatever feels more comfortable for you.
  • Sit for 10 minutes…or sitting every day even for 5 minutes in the beginning will be beneficial. Sit and practice mindfulness of the breath, becoming aware of the sensations of your own breath as it flows in and out of your body. Just ‘noticing every breath’ as best you can…
  • Remember that meditation is a lifelong daily practice… as you work with your breathing, you will find it easier to remain calm in the midst of any of life’s challenging situations.
  • It is important not to judge your meditations, some days might be harder than others, even if you are so exhausted at the end of a day and can only sit and watch 3 breaths in the 10 minutes space, do it anyway. It will make a difference…
